A friend of C.A.R.E. contacted us about this adorable orange guy who she found  outside right before the hurricane.  He was with a friend, but that kitty found her own forever home.  The lady took him in as a foster, but he needs a forever home too.  He also has some issues with his teeth that will need addressing, so the person who takes him in must also being willing to help him with his special needs. Atlas Will Rock Your Universe

A friend of C.A.R.E. asked us to post some information about a dog she is fostering. His name is Atlas, and he is an adorable guy.  How can you look at this boy's ears and not fall in love? How can you look at his face and not smile with him? His brother found a home, but poor Atlas didn't. With those loving eyes, he is sure to be your next best friend.  He came a long way to find a forever home, and he only deserves a loving and responsible one. Atlas is a 2 year, 50lb, corgi/husky mix who came from a high-kill shelter down in South Carolina when his family dropped him and his brother off
because they couldn't afford to care for them anymore. His brother got adopted but Atlas had to make the long trip north to spend some time in foster before finding his forever home.

Atlas is an adorable, mellow sweetheart with a sweet face and goofy Gizmo ears. He loves the company of other dogs and would love the company of cats if they wanted anything to do with him. He just stands there and whines at my cat for attention but is not pushy/aggressive in the least towards her. He walks fairly well on a leash and seems to have a good foundation for being fully house trained. He responds well to his name and redirection.

Atlas has a great attitude for undergoing so many different moves in the last few months, and I think he'd do great in almost any living situation. Atlas is available for adoption through Almost Home Dog Rescue. You can read about their adoption guidelines here:

Little Miss Mya

A friend of CARE asked us to post these pictures of Mya, a sweet kitten she recently found.

Mya is about 4 months old and is a tabby. She is an absolutely gorgeous cat. Our friend found her on a farm in the Poconos. Mya was emaciated and freezing when our friend discovered her. But she must have known that our friend was going to take her out of that situation because she jumped right in the car and was ready to go!

Our friend said that Mya is one of the sweetest kittens she has ever encountered. She's a lap cat and she always sleeps curled up against your legs. She gets along very well with other cats, but she seems to be afraid of dogs. She is litterbox trained and eats dry and wet food. She was lucky enough to find a person who wanted to help her. Now she needs a forever home. Please give her a home! She will have all shots and be spayed before adoption. Please look at Mya's pictures... and admit it, you know you will fall in love with her! More Friends of the Family

I just got a phone call from another friend of C.A.R.E. She told me that she rescued 5 kittens. They were found in a box in the parking lot of a shopping center. Someone apparently simply left them there. Thank goodness that my friend was shopping today and that her friend told her about these babies. The kittens are safe and are being fostered. Their foster mom said that they seem to be doing well, and that they will be ready for forever homes soon. They are probably about 4-5 weeks old now. These cats are not C.A.R.E. cats, but the friend asked me to post information about them here on Sam Sez and on Facebook. 13th Annual Pet Walk Photos-Fun in the Park!!

This year's Pet Walk was a lot of fun! The walk was held on May 21, 2011 at FDR Park. The weather was great and we enjoyed our day. Christmas Angels

We need a Christmas miracle!! Saturday and Sunday are twin sisters. And they are little Christmas angels. They are looking for one thing for Christmas: a home together forever! Two movie stars

Move over, Mary-Kate and Ashley! The Onyx Twins are here! Saturday and Sunday will steal the show! They are two precious sisters still looking for their forever home. They are beautiful with their shiny black and white coats. They are regal and lovely, and they are two special ladies indeed. They are a little bit older now than then last time we featured them. They are still kittens though.




They are full of energy, and more importantly, they are full of love. All they want to do is share that love with a special person. We know that it's not always easy to take two kittens at a time. However, we cannot separate these twins now. They are best friends, and they love each other very much. They wouldn't know what to do without the other. If you watch them play and snuggle with each other, you would be able to tell right away that they couldn't bear to be apart. You wouldn't want to be taken away from your best friend, would you? Well Saturday and Sunday want to stay together too. Besides, having two cute kitties will brighten you day; they will give you double the amount of love. Can't you please be the one who takes these sisters? We know the person who opens his or her home will have to be a special person.




And we only want a special person to contact us. Some people might think that black cats are bad luck. But isn't that ridiculous to think that way in 2010? Look at the faces of these kittens. How can they be anything but angels in disguise? Let them come into your life and be your special good luck charms. Do not reply unless you are a serious, responsible pet owner. Take me home

Please help Grey. He is about 4 years old, and is a leukemia positive cat that is in urgent need of a home. He's doing really well, even though he is positive. If he doesn't find a home soon, he is going to be put down. He's not going to be put to sleep because he is positive; rather he is being put down because he is no longer wanted. His owner has to move, and the people where she is moving don't want Grey. He was originally rescued from the streets by his owner. He survived the city streets and he must have thought that he found his forever home when the lady took him in. Now he is facing the biggest battle of his life, because he has to find a home before his time runs out. It is a shame that he is going be put down because nobody will give him a home. He is loving and would be a great pal. He just needs a lot of attention and love. He will give you back love and attention. Since he is positive, he has to be placed in a home with another leukemia positive cat, or in a home by himself. If you are truly an animal lover, and you have a means to help Grey, please contact us ASAP. Grey will be put down very soon if a home is not found. True animal lovers will want to help this guy if they can. It's not fair that his life has to be over because he is unwanted. Twins!!

Just look at our twins! Saturday and Sunday are adorable sisters. They were found on a Saturday and rescued on a Sunday. That's how they got their names. They are about 11 weeks old, and are playful and fun just as kittens are supposed to be. They love doing everything together, and snuggle with each other every day.




Saturday and Sunday are a cute couple of black kittens (with a patch of white on their chests) who not only love each other, but they also love their foster mom.



Their mom can't keep them forever though. These girls need a special family who will love them for life! Since they are twins, and since they adore each other so much, they would probably do best if they were kept together. However, we will consider splitting them up for the right person and to the right home. If you are looking for two kitties, these girls would be perfect for you. They both have great personalities and will keep you smiling for years to come. They are too precious for words, and you'd have to see them to understand just how truly special they are.

The Lost One

Meet Solo. She was found poking around a garbage can on a patio. Solo was all by herself. No mom, no siblings, no people. She seemed so lonely and afraid. Her foster mom took her in and cleaned her up and gave her some food and some mother's cat milk. Solo is about 12 weeks old, and she is a beautiful little girl. She needs a home....and once you meet her, you will want that home to be yours. How can you look at such a beautiful girl and not want to snuggle her? Stella, the Diva Kitty

Miss Stella went for a ride in the car today. She is the sweetest little kitty, and too pretty for words. These photos don't do her justice. She is still looking for her forever home. She is lovable, and enjoys being held. She will snuggle right into you, and purr in your ear. We think she might end up being someone's lap cat. She is so terrific that she truly deserves to find a family who will love her forever. She gives nothing but love, and should receive love in return.



Stella did very well in the car, and didn't get sick or scared. Miss Stella is a diva. She's fabulous, and she knows it! She likes showing off, playing with her sisters, and especially getting attention from her foster mom. A diva wants royal treatment! That's why she needs to be placed in a home where her people will love her, pamper her, and take care of her forever. Kittens, Kittens, Everywhere!

Once again in this blog, we have to mention that we still have some kittens available for adoption. All of the kittens are girls. We discovered this information during their first vet visit. The kittens are now nine weeks old, and are in desperate need of loving homes. Though one of the C.A.R.E. volunteers is fostering the girls, she won't be able to do so for much longer. The cats all have great personalities, and they act like true kittens that love to explore,run, jump, and play. They are all very cute, and we just know they're going to grow up to be pretty girls. We just haven't been able to find special homes for our special girls.

We really try very hard to place pets with families who'll love them for life. Taking in a new pet, especially a puppy or a kitten, isn't about giving temporary love. When a person commits to being a pet owner, it's a commitment that the person makes for the pet's entire life. Sure, kittens and puppies are adorable. It's a great time for everyone. Watching them grow and watching the cute things that they do when they are little is something that people will never forget; however, kittens and puppies grow up and will need the same amount of love and attention when they become adults. If you want to adopt a kitten or a puppy from C.A.R.E. or another organization, make sure you're aware that you will need to be responsible for that animal for the rest of its life.

This year has been a very difficult one to place unwanted animals. As always, and because of the careless acts of people, there are too many homeless animals in the streets and in shelters. It's sad for us to think that our wonderful little kittens don't have homes yet--that no one can take them in. We ask that if you can provide a good home for any of our girls, that you please contact us immediately. These kittens need your help. If you spent just a few minutes with any of them, you'd be in love. Please do what you can. If you can't adopt one of these cats, simply pass on the information in this blog and ask someone you know who might be able to adopt. Please only ask responsible and caring pet owners.

C.A.R.E. has some new kittens. One of our volunteers found six kitties that are in need of homes A.S.A.P. We think someone may have dumped them off. They are six weeks old, and are just precious. We can't believe that anyone would just leave these cute creatures. They all have their own personalities, and they love people. Their foster moms say that they are running around and enjoying the people and other animals in their foster houses. All they want is a chance. Take a look at the pictures.

Sunny is the boss, so anyone who wants a kitten that is going to come into the house and make herself at home should consider adopting her. She is the leader, and her brothers and sisters follow her around the house. She will melt your heart, and probably fit right in the second she puts her paws inside your door. You won't regret taking such a special girl. She will be your friend for life.




Stella is a pretty girl, and she likes to play with her brothers and sisters. This picture doesn't do her justice at all. She is truly adorable. She just loves her foster mom, but she would love it even more if she had a great forever home. She is seen in this picture with her sister, Sunny. She is the all gray cat.





And then we have Snacks. He is our little prince. He is the tiniest little boy, but don't tell him that! His best friend in his foster mom's house is a German Shepherd! He is a lovely little guy that adores his foster family and his animal friends. He is a little runt, but he acts like a big shot. He loves to eat, (hence his name) play, and snuggle; he wants a forever friend. He is seen in this picture with his sisters, Sunny and Stella. He is the pee wee (black) snuggled with the girls.

C.A.R.E. currently has six kittens available for adoption. They are six weeks old, and are in need of loving homes. They were found, luckily by a C.A.R.E. volunteer. Wendy Young appeared at FDR Park on May 16, 2009 for C.A.R.E’s eleventh annual Spay a Stray Pet Walk. Wendy is the owner of Progressive Dog Training and a friend of C.A.R.E. She offered her specialized training services for the dogs and their people who attended the walk. Wendy, who said that her best friends have always been dogs, possesses over twenty years of training experience. At the walk, Wendy gathered the dogs together for some simple obedience lessons. She was able to demonstrate proper calming techniques that the pet owners could use to train their dogs. She also took the time for questions, and she offered further advice to the owners about how to best handle their individual pet training issues.

Wendy began her career by volunteering to train service dogs for people with disabilities. She also worked with shelters and with rescues. She decided to establish Progressive Dog Training because of her rewarding experience with the service dogs and their humans. She then wanted the opportunity to help all dogs and their people. Wendy clearly loves her work—and the people and the dogs that she helps. She explained that dog training is more about the people than it is about the animals. “The person has to cooperate, “ Wendy said. When a trainer can get through to the human, then the trainer has succeeded; once the person is educated, the dog will follow.


Wendy tackles common behavioral problems such as aggression, fear, barking, lunging, and house-training. She provides the information and instruction that pet owners need to know to better communicate with their dogs. Wendy’s Quick Training Tip:

For help with dogs (while walking on a leash) that are lunging forward, acting aggressively toward another dog, or for a dog that tries to walk in the opposite direction you’re going:
· Tie a knot in the leash
· When the dog begins acting aggressively, or walking in the wrong direction, slide your hand down the leash to the knot.
· Step in front of the dog to block him
· When he calms down, step out of the way, slide your hand back to the normal position on the leash, and try walking again. Repeat technique if necessary until dog cooperates.

It's the spring, and that means that it's time once again for the C.A.R.E Spay a Stray pet walk. This is our twelfth annual walk! Please see pictures from our previous walks. We always have a great time, and we are looking forward to this year's event. We can't wait to see the people who come every year, and we also look forward to meeting new friends. We enjoy playing games, chatting, having dog training sessions, meeting new people, and of course we enjoy the walk itself!
